Inflation of a 3SF balloon (Bauru, 2003)

Description
  • Maximum load: 200 kg

  • Flight profile: 1h ascent to 22 km, slow overnight descent

  • Recovery by helicopter of Brazilian Air Force

  • Light two-channel telemetry (on-board storage of most scientific data).

  • Pressure, Temperature, Humidity, GPS 3D location

  • Up to 5-6 independent instruments

Use during HIBISCUS

Short duration 3SF balloons will provide, in the Tropical Tropopause Layer (TTL), high resolution vertical profiles of:

  • Tracers (DIRAC GC, DESCARTES air sampler, MICRO-SDLA)

  • Clouds and aerosols (OPS optical particle spectrometer, LABS backscatter diode laser, MICRO-LIDAR, backscatter sonde)
